Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the benefits of football scholarship with community service. He was the youngest son of Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Semon. They raised him on their farm in Eufala. Also, he was one of three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. Three brothers all made All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the United States by Outland and Lombardi Awards. During his three-year tenure as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. A third scholarship saw him named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in education. Fourth year of the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. After graduation, he landed in Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers played an all-pro three times before beginning an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, while working as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 of America's most outstanding young males. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He coached his university team in 1975. In 1993, he was appointed the associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He has been inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
